Protect your boat

Professional hull blacking & epoxy coating

Safeguard your boat’s most critical component with expert hull blacking or epoxy coating, ensuring long-lasting protection against corrosion and wear

Your boat’s hull is its first line of defence against the harsh marine environment. Regular hull blacking or epoxy coating is essential to maintain its structural integrity and longevity, preventing costly damage and ensuring optimal performance.

At Crafted Boats, our experienced team uses industry-leading techniques and materials to provide superior hull protection. Our comprehensive hull blacking services include thorough preparation, cleaning and applying high-quality bitumen or epoxy finishes, depending on your boat’s specific needs.

We have two dedicated dry docks for these services, at Fenny Marina and Tardebigge, and can access your boat’s baseplate for grit blasting and epoxy coating.

Investing in our professional hull blacking services will extend your boat’s life and improve its efficiency, reducing fuel consumption and maintenance costs in the long run. Our attention to detail and commitment to quality ensure that your hull receives the best possible protection, allowing you to enjoy your time on the water with peace of mind.

Our hull blacking process

Step one

Lift out
Your boat is floated into our dry dock, and the chamber is drained of water to gain access to the hull

Step two

Pressure wash
High-pressure cleaning removes old blacking, debris, weeds, mud and rust to prepare the hull

Step three

First coat
The first layer of bitumen or epoxy is manually applied using small rollers for even coverage

Step four

Finishing
A second coat is applied, with optional extra coatings around the waterline for added protection

Step five

Launch
After thorough drying and cleaning, the dry dock is refilled with water, and your boat is ready to use

All your home comforts

Why you need hull blacking & epoxy coating

Protecting your boat’s hull is crucial for maintaining its structural integrity, performance and safety. Regular hull blacking acts as a barrier against the harsh marine environment, preventing corrosion, wear and damage that can lead to costly repairs and decreased lifespan. It ensures your boat receives the highest level of protection.

Our experienced master craftsmen combine traditional, time-honed hull blacking techniques with the latest materials and equipment to thoroughly clean and coat your hull, providing a durable, long-lasting defence against the elements.

And for epoxy coating, we use a two-part system that’s impermeable and chemical, abrasion and impact resistant when fully cured. It gives a smooth, attractive finish that lasts for five years. Epoxy coating lasts longer than hull blacking, stops corrosion in its tracks and is the best solution for preventative maintenance. We offer a five-year warranty on all our epoxy coating work, for guaranteed  peace of mind.

Trust us to safeguard your boat’s most valuable asset, giving you peace of mind and allowing you to enjoy your time on the water to the fullest.

How it works

Our epoxy coating process

Step one

Lift out
Your boat is floated into our dry dock, and the chamber is drained of water to gain access to the hull

Step two

Grit blast
We blast the hull and base plate with grit to strip it back to bare steel. This removes the old blacking and any debris, weeds, mud and rust, to prepare the hull

Step three

Epoxy coat
We spray apply the first layer of epoxy coating for even coverage

Step four

Top coat
We spray apply a compatible topcoat above the water line for cosmetic purposes, as the epoxy goes dull over time

Step five

Launch
After thorough drying and cleaning, the dry dock is refilled with water, and your boat is ready to use
